Julie Norris is a highly experienced employment law solicitor and employment tribunal advocate, defending medical practices against claims in the Employment Tribunals throughout the country.
Julie is a specialist in all aspects of discrimination law, successfully defending and prosecuting often high value proceedings brought by employees or partners alleging harassment, discrimination and whistle-blowing.
During her career spanning almost 20 years, Julie has provided practical and pragmatic legal advice to a range of clients. Since 2004 she has acted exclusively for NHS clients, GP Consortia and for GP partners at medical practices. Julie hasĀ drafted and negotiated numerous employment contracts for staff of GMS and PMS practices, service agreements, staff handbooks, terms & conditions, has undertaken transactional work advising on complex TUPE situations, as well as negotiating compromise agreements and resolving a wide variety of employment disputes providing step by step advice to clients.
Having focused exclusively on employment law in the context of Primary Care for the past seven years Julie has a unique understanding of the particular challenges of this sector. Julie regularly drafts employment contracts for both clinicians and administrative staff, as well as developing or enhancing practice policies and procedures and drafting locum agreements. This includes drafting documents which are consistent with the ‘BMA Model terms’ and other regulatory requirements. Recent contentious matters which Julie has successfully resolved include; claims of discrimination by employees; claims of discrimination by GP partners; claims for unfair dismissal; claims for bullying and harassment.
In addition to her legal work, Julie is an experienced trainer. She is known for her engaging style combined with a deep understanding of the law and of primary care. In her spare time Julie enjoys spending time with her family and renovating her house.
