Richard was admitted as a solicitor in 1983, and has specialised in commercial litigation and dispute resolution for most of his career.
Richard has deep experience of a wide variety of disputes, including; shareholder and partnership disputes; contractual disputes; administrative court claims; licence appeals; property disputes; professional negligence claims; employment claims; defamation claims; as well as international commercial litigation for multi-national corporations. He is keen on the use of mediation to resolve commercial disputes and has acted in numerous arbitrations.
Richard has particular expertise in litigating cases involving complex regulatory and forum related issues, as is often the case in primary care disputes. Richard is therefore well placed to advise whether a case needs to be heard in the NHSLA, in arbitration, the employment tribunal, or the High Court.
After graduating in History and Law from Cambridge University, Richard spent 10 years working in the London office of the international law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and subsequently worked for a number of well known regional firms. He also spent several years advising clients on the emerging legal and regulatory framework for the governance of the Internet, across multiple jurisdictions in the early days of the world wide web.
Whilst Richard has successfully litigated some very high profile court cases, he sees his role as resolving disputes. Litigation and arbitration are a last resort in dispute resolution.
