The Solicitors Regulation Authority requires us to publish certain information relevant to claims for unfair and wrongful dismissal (whether bringing and defending claims and whether we act for an employee or employer).

A claim in the Employment Tribunal could typically cost from £3,000 to £50,000 plus VAT.  We will provide you with an estimate of our fees at the start of the transaction and keep it under review.  We will take account of the value of your claim in terms of cost -v- benefit throughout. We charge hourly for work undertaken and the hourly rate ranges from £150 to £350 + VAT depending on seniority.  You can meet our team of solicitors here

Anticipated costs for a claim in the Employment Tribunal
Costs increase with the level of complexity involved – the more complex a case, the more work we will need to do.  Issues which increase the level of complexity include where a claim for discrimination or whistleblowing is made; the length of the final hearing; how the person on the other side acts or if they are litigants in person or there are additional costs in making or defending a costs application.

Disbursements
Disbursements are third party costs that we will incur on your behalf and may include Counsel’s fees for attending a hearing, which can cost from £1,000 to £10,000 plus VAT depending on seniority of Counsel and complexity of the case. We will agree these with you upfront.

What work might our cost estimate include?

  • Taking instructions, reviewing papers and providing a merits assessment
  • Undertaking mandatory settlement options
  • Preparing & submitting a claim or response
  • Reviewing and advising other side’s response and continuing to explore settlement options
  • Preparing for and attending a preliminary hearing
  • Taking witness statements and preparing & exchanging hearing bundles & advising on same
  • Preparation for and attendance at final hearing, including instructing Counsel

What steps aren’t included?
The cost of challenging or appealing against a decision made in the Employment Tribunal

How long might my matter take?
If a settlement is reached before a hearing, your matter could be concluded within 4 months.  If your claim reaches a final hearing, it make take up to 12 months to be heard.

Where our fees stated above attract VAT, this is payable at the standard rate from time to time, which is currently 20%
